Originating from Eastern Europe, the Matryoshka (or “little matron”) is a familiar sight to most of us, owing to its great popularity. It was created as a toy over a hundred years ago, and its basic design has remained the same: round wooden figurines that grow smaller in size placed inside each other. The Matryoshka’s appearance has been modernized over time, but its classic look has remained well loved and the most recognizable. No wonder, because one look at the Matryoshka will transport one to a time of simpler joys and traditions over a hundred years ago.
