What makes you happy?

Is it opening a fresh set of pens? The sight of just-sharpened colored pencils? Or maybe it’s the scent of new coloring book pages?

If you’re happy, we’re happy. That’s why every month, we pick winning art submissions based on a set criteria. Then we randomly choose three more winners to keep things interesting!

These lucky Fan of the Month winners will each receive a $25 ColorIt gift card and have the chance to double their prize by having their ColorIt Pencils, Markers or Gel Pens in their submission photo. Now these winners can get their hands on more coloring supplies and goodies!

Check out the winning submissions for June, and get to know the artists behind the works with these exclusive interviews:

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

When I was very young probably at age 4. I've always loved to color and colored with my daughter all the time!! Then in November 2015, I read an article about adult coloring and then it all began again!!

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

Usually, I sit at the kitchen table and listen to music and talk to my family and color away sometimes into the early morning. I also love to sit outside and color with the natural sunlight.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

First I go through the books and decide on a picture, then I pick out what medium I will use and just start coloring away!!

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

I love the calming peaceful feeling I get from coloring, I find it very relaxing and enjoy it so much!

What advice would you give someone who isn't confident about their coloring technique?

Just enjoy and have fun with it. You don't have to be an expert to create something beautiful!

What's your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?

Oh boy I have a few: Blissful Scenes, Colors of the Ocean, A Colorful Christmas and Colors of Inspiration. Let's just say I love all the Colorit books! A book of different Country Scenes and an Owl book would be awesome!!

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

I love everything about Colorit, I have 9 of your books and all of your mediums, I have enough to keep me busy for a very long time!! Colorit live on Wednesday nights are my favorite night of the week! The whole Colorit team is awesome and has one of the best customer services department ever!!

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I have been coloring for almost a year.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

I mainly color at night while watching television with my husband. I have always been a craft fan. I also knit and cross stitch, but honestly, since I started coloring, those hobbies have taken a back seat.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

I decide which types of pens or pencils I want to use. Sometimes I add other ones than I originally started with. I just seem to match colors and use a variety of color combos. I often have people ask me if the pics are color by number.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

I find coloring so relaxing. It really does ease any stresses one can have. I enjoy my completed work. My husband is very supportive. He loves to look at my finished pages.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

I would tell someone to buy one of your books. They truly are the best ones out there. They lay flat and the bold lines are so much fun to color. There really is no right or wrong way to color. Whatever you imagine usually ends up looking great.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?

My favorite is the Blissful Scenes. I just ordered your Cities book. I also love the Best of ColorIt Book. I colored the Eiffel Tower pic and framed it as part of my granddaughter's 8th grade graduation gift. She loves Paris and was so happy to have a gift I made.

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

I am addicted to coloring. We are going to Florida for a couple of weeks. We are driving, so I am taking a few of my books and my pens and pencils. Speaking of pens, your gel pens are the best. I love your refill system because they are all numbered.

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I was too young to remember! Coloring was a large part of my childhood and when the family got together, I remember even my mother and aunts joining us kids so I have always tried to keep the tradition going as an adult at holiday get-togethers.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

At the kitchen table with my mother and sister (when available).

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

I look the page over and start with the areas that I am for sure what color I want to use, such as wood, animals, or greenery. Smaller items are usually left until last to see what colors haven't been used yet.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

It has reminded me that life is precious. Back before adult coloring books came out, my mother started coloring in our old kids coloring books to relieve stress when she was going through cancer treatments so now coloring means I have been granted extra quality time with her.

What advice would you give someone who isn't confident about their coloring technique?

Don't worry about technique, just do what feels right to you and experiment, experiment, experiment. I have not been shading very long but I just keep trying different mixes and luckily some of them turn out fairly decent!

What's your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?

Wow, that is hard to choose but out of the four that I have (A Colorful Christmas, Blissful Scenes, Dogs: Everyone's Best Friend, Colors of Nature), I would say A Colorful Christmas is my favorite and I am going to add that my favorite illustrator is obviously Hasby Mubarok (just had to get a shout out to him!). I would love to see a "Country Charm" or "Farm & Country" in the future and maybe a "Holiday" that included more than just Christmas. Of course, I wouldn't be against another Christmas one either!

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

Experimenting with new mediums and papers was a reminder to me that we are never too old to enjoy learning new things even if it is a makeover of an old thing!
