AUGUST 2019 FAN OF THE MONTH WINNERS

How did your August go?

For us at ColorIt, August has been pretty eventful with our Back to School and Labor Day promos and the release of our new and improved dotted grid journals. We also had loads of fun brewing up something special to help set your creativity even more. Can you guess what we’ve been up to lately?! 

Aside from working on all of these fun activities, we also received tons of stunning art submissions for our August Fan of the Month contest!

For August, the challenge was to upload any ColorIt coloring submission on this page. Three winners were handpicked by the ColorIt team based on a set criteria, and another three were selected at random. Each winner gets to take home a $25 ColorIt gift card, plus a chance to double their prize if their submissions feature any ColorIt coloring medium!

AUGUST FAN OF THE MONTH WINNER: CARRIE RIDENOUR

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

When did I first picked up a color book? Well I really don’t remember when. I know it was as a kid. Loved to color. I started again about 4 yrs ago. There weren't as many books out there like there is now.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

My perfect coloring atmosphere is either watching Netflix or listening to my classic rock sitting in my recliner.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

When I get ready to color I get comfortable get myself a Mt Dew or some ice water. Get my big container of colored pencils.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

Coloring is my favorite thing to do most days. Keeps me busy. I'm not bored.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

If you don’t think you are confident in your coloring. Just keep practicing and taking your time with coloring. Each picture will get better.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book?

My favorite colorit book is blissful scenes. Also the color of Nature

What title would you like to see in the future?

I would love to have one with flowers that has thinner lines like the two books that are my go to. I love those kinds because i can shade them. I like to shade flowers it makes them more real life. I love your books also because of the spiral at the top. I wish all books were like that. I have 6 of your books now.

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

I just love coloring putting the colors together. Shading the pictures. I haven’t used the gel pens or the markers. I would like to try the watercolor pencils to see the shading with them.

AUGUST FAN OF THE MONTH WINNER: JEAN MELLINGER

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

Started coloring August, 2018.  Back several years ago I used to do Liquid Embroidery which was put out by Tri-Chem Embroidery.  This was done on a Pellon Fabric.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

Usually I color at a Car Show or while watching TV.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

I have my pencils and gel pens in cases and have the pencils by colors and the gel pens in numerical sequence according to the charts that came with them.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

I usually color at Car Shows it keeps me awake and alert.  At home I usually color while watching TV.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

I would say keep at it don’t give up even if something doesn’t look quite right to you.  It’s fun and very therapeutic. Main thing is to have fun.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book?

A Colorful Christmas, your Mandala Books.

What title would you like to see in the future?

I would like to see Christmas Cards.  I send Christmas Cards to my friends and family it’s a way of sending something very personal.  My favorite thing to do right now I have 53 finished for this year.

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

I love coloring Animals, Christmas Cards and anything that I think is really cute and pretty like the Peacocks in the pictures enclosed that I colored for this contest.

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I've ALWAYS loved coloring books, ever since I was little. There's always been a book, or printed pages, and a box of pencils, crayons or markers around to entertain me or any kids that happened to be around. :)

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

I usually have the music on, whether radio or Pandora, while I'm coloring. I find it difficult to concentrate if it's too quiet.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

When I find a page that I want to color, I like to take at least a couple minutes planning what colors I'd like to use and where. That usually changes, but it is what it is. And I do hang them on the fridge when I'm done. 

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

It's a great time to relax and not have to think about "adulting" for a bit.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

Don't stop coloring. If you haven't found your "style" yet, you will.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book?

So far, I think my favorite is Blissful Scenes.

What title would you like to see in the future?

Always something with more cats! 

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

You can never have too many coloring books, crayons, pencils or markers!!
