June Fan of the Month Contest Winners

June was indeed a sun-sational month for us at ColorIt. Not only did we have lots of summer fun, we also received tons of beautiful art submissions for our June Fan of the Month contest!

For June, the challenge was to color any summer-themed ColorIt coloring page. Three winners were picked by the ColorIt team based on a set criteria, and another three were selected at random. Winners get to score a $25 ColorIt gift card, plus a chance to double their prize if their submissions feature any ColorIt coloring medium!

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I first picked up an adult coloring book a few years ago. Prior to that time, I didn't know that adult coloring books even existed. A friend of mine who lives on the opposite coast mentioned adult coloring books to me and told me that she had been coloring in them for decades. I immediately did a search and have been coloring ever since. The moment I discovered Color It coloring books, I recommended them to this friend and the two of us have been hooked. The quality of your Color It books far surpasses that of any other! Some of the many things I love are as follows: The hardback protects my work; the quality of the pages prevents bleed through; the Color It gel pens move smoothly over the coloring page; the blotter page makes me secure that I don't have to worry about hitting the edges of the page beneath the one that I am coloring; the spiral binding makes for ease in flipping through the pages--Can you tell that I am in love with these coloring books?

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

My favorite coloring atmosphere is my kitchen table which overlooks my tropical garden patio. This is often accompanied by a nice breeze drifting in through my open patio door. Sometimes I even up the atmosphere by playing music that fits the theme of what I am coloring; for example, I will play 50's music while coloring a Fifties-themed page in my Color It "Colors of the Decades" or French songs while coloring a Parisian- themed page in my Color It "Around the World in 50 pages".

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

As far as my creative process goes, I just flip through my Color It pages until a particular theme grabs me and then I let the page tell me the colors it wishes to be. I just go with the flow so to speak!

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

At times, my job requirements can become stressful as I have a tendency to not be able to leave work at work. Coloring has become a great way to distract myself from worrying about things that cannot be changed. I am too much of a perfectionist and can be too conscientious at times--Coloring has really helped in this regard.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

As far as giving people advice when they aren't confident about their coloring technique, I would say that they should tell themselves that no one needs to see the outcome--to not overthink it and just be in the moment.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book?

Choosing my favorite Color it book is difficult as I love all that I have. If I had to choose, it would probably be "Around the World in 50 Pages" because I love international travel. I have been fortunate to visit some spectacular places and now I can revisit them in my mind's eye through the coloring of some of these sites. I also color pages of places I haven't been yet, but that I have placed on my bucket list.

What title would you like to see in the future?

That said, I would love to see a version 2 of this book called "Around the World in Another 50 pages :) I would also like to see a 2nd "Colorful Expressions" book containing even more fun expressions. If Color It is considering new themes, the ultimate theme for me would be single, pair, and dance skating moves as my brother aka best friend and I were formerly an ice skating pair of Eastern Sectional caliber. He went on to Ice Capades, whereas I went on to motherhood--neither of us would have changed a thing!

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

Happy coloring everyone! :)

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I have love to color all my life, but got into adult coloring in May 2015. I was a teacher and was looking for something that would ease the end of year stress. Heard a discussion on one of the morning talk shows about it. Went that day to Amazon and ordered a book. Have been hooked ever since.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

My perfect coloring atmosphere depends on the season. Summer it is on my front porch listening to the birds. Winter it is in my recliner with my dogs beside me. Maybe some soft music.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color. I usually decide which medium I am going to use first. Then I usually just look at the picture and start with one section, like the flowers, if there are any, and go from their.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

I have some medical problems and cannot walk very well. It has opened an area for something to keep my mind busy and has even helped me lose some weight. I don’t eat when coloring, LOL!

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

Do it for yourself! Many times we are our own worst critic. I wouldn’t post my work because I was afraid it wasn’t good enough. But if it makes you happy, do it. And putting yourself out there may help someone else. I know that has helped me. Everyone is really nice and complementary about anything that I have ever done. I in turn, try to be the same. Also if there is something you are unsure about how to do, ask! Someone will always help you.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book?

This is a very hard question for me, because I love them all! But my favorite would have to be the Colorful Scriptures. I am a born again Christian, and so many of these pages gave me a devotion to think about as I color. If there is a day I am feeling down, that is my go to book.

What title would you like to see in the future?

I would love to see a book of nothing but flowers! There are plenty in all of your books, but I would like one dedicated to flowers.

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

Just again, I am grateful for the talented artists that create all the wonderful books that are out there. They provide me with an outlet for my little bit of talent.

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I picked up my first adult coloring book after I attended a free workshop at our community college when I retired.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

My perfect coloring atmosphere is anywhere in a quiet location with good light.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

When I start a project, I pick a focal point that will stand out in the finished project. Then I choose a color palette and go from there.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

I love color in general. Coloring give me an artistic expression that brings color into my life.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

The best way to gain confidence is to practice, practice, practice. I also enjoy watching videos and seeing examples for inspiration and ideas. Social media is a great way to start.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book?

My favorite ColorIt book is the one I have colored the most pages. That is "Blissful Scenes". There is something about watching those images come to life by adding color that I really enjoy.

What title would you like to see in the future?

I have enjoyed the monthly calendar download this year so much. I would love to see a calendar in print for 2020 or a coloring book that goes beyond the four seasons and focuses more on each month and holidays.

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

I would like everyone to know the joy that artistic expression can bring. Anyone can do it!

And here are the rest of the winners:
