November Fan of the Month Winners

Posted by Audrey Eytchison on

Each month, our judges Erika, AJ, and Audrey select 3 winning submissions based on very specific judging criteria. This is a very tough process since the talent within the ColorIt Community is beyond impressive! We are always so excited to see the submissions come rolling in each month. We want to reward all of our colorists, which is why we also select 3 submissions at random! Each winner receives a $25 ColorIt gift card, but this month we had contestants DOUBLE their prize by having their ColorIt Colored Pencils, Markers, or Gel Pens in their submission photo. Read on to see exclusive ColorIt interviews with some of August's winners, their winning pages, and more!
When did you first pick up a coloring book?
when i was very young i always had access to coloring books and crayons and colored pencils. I used to get into coloring contests when I was young.
Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
I generally color at the kitchen table, with the TV on and my 91 year old mother coloring next to me. At the same time, my sister playing games on her phone.
Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
No real process... I look at the picture, get an idea in my head and pick up my pencils and/or gels. I really want to learn to do backgrounds.
This coloring page was selected by Audrey and is from our 10 Christmas Sample Drawings! This was my choice because of her attention to detail throughout the entire coloring page. Janice did an amazing job shading and blending to create a really dynamic coloring page! Beautiful job, Janice! (Click on image to enlarge)
How has coloring changed or added to your life?
Coloring helps relax me. Gives me something to do besides sit and dwell on the negative things. I have really been enjoying it. Coloring also gives me the extra time to do something extra with my mom. My grandchildren also like to get the pens and pencils out when they come over and it gives us some extra bonding time, to talk and share ideas and suggestions.
What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?
Just keep coloring. Enjoy what you do. It doesn't have to be perfect, you can get out of the lines.. you can use wild colors, you can use one or a hundred colors on your picture... Just have fun.
What’s your favorite ColorIt book?
My favorite book is "Blissful Scenes" (which I don't have yet).
What title would you like to see in the future?
I would like to see fairies, outdoor settings, a little bit of everything (except doodles and mandalas)
Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?
i will color as long and my mind and hands work. I love it! It's me time, and i am sure you understand, there never seems to be enough time for ourselves. HAPPY COLORING EVERYONE!!

When did you first pick up a coloring book?
I first started coloring when I was little, I used to draw a lot of my own images before adult coloring became a thing. It was awesome to discover adult coloring books for those days I wanted to be lazier, so to speak, and not draw an image to color.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
I really don't have a coloring atmosphere lol. I do always have music playing tho, so maybe that counts? (It totally does!)

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
First thing I always do is decide where my light source is coming from. I'm also one to color my background first, so always planning colors to use.

This coloring page was selected by Erika and is from our 12 Free Christmas Downloads promotion! The coloring technique is so advanced, I almost thought it was illustrated on a computer. Fun fact: Debra won on her first ever ColorIt submission! Way to go, Debra. (Click the image to enlarge!)

How has coloring changed or added to your life?
Coloring just gave me more creative outlets. I'm very into all things art, so just added to that.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?
My advice for anyone who isn't confident: keep practicing, art is in the eye of the beholder and all art is beautiful. I guarantee you someone will love any page you do. Most importantly, never compare your work to others; have fun and never stress or worry.

What’s your favorite ColorIt book?
I'm new to ColorIt, as this was my first page from ColorIt. I'm interested in buying Blissful Scenes 😊

When did you first pick up a coloring book?
I first picked up coloring in kindergarten. I loved coloring with my boys when they were growing up and now I love coloring with my granddaughter. I wish she lived closer so I could do it more often.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
I have no creative process, I just grab my book and pencils or markers and just go at it.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?
I usually use it to de-stress after a hard day. It soothes me.

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?
