September Fan of the Month Winners

Posted by 3five Support on

Each month, our judges Erika, AJ, and Audrey select 3 winning submissions based on very specific judging criteria. This is a very tough process since the talent within the ColorIt Community is beyond impressive! We are always so excited to see the submissions come rolling in each month. We want to reward all of our colorists, which is why we also select 3 submissions at random! Each winner receives a $25 ColorIt gift card, but this month we had contestants DOUBLE their prize by having their ColorIt Colored Pencils, Markers, or Gel Pens in their submission photo. Read on to see exclusive ColorIt interviews with some of August's winners, their winning pages, and more!

When did you first pick up a coloring book?
Every since I was little, my mom would buy me books and coloring books on her payday. At Christmas I knew I was getting a holiday coloring book along with the Book of Lifesavers! And often before bedtime we would sit at the kitchen table and color together. At those times we usually talked about anything and everything while coloring.
Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
Being surrounded by friends ready to have fun and all ready to color! But sometimes when that can’t happen it means bouncing between coloring and my coloring friends on-line!
Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
Sometimes the colors jump out at me before I even start. I don’t have a usual starting point. It's what color jumps out at me and where I want to put it. Sometimes I get stuck and I just have to walk away. Thats ok because I may just need a break. Nothing says you have to get it all done at one time. I am usually able to come to a color in a day or so. When I look at a page for the first time I usually decide what I want to be the focal point and work around that.
This drawing is from our Colors of the Decades coloring book and was selected by Erika! The colors that Angela used throughout this masterpiece really channel the '60s! Groovy job, Angela! (Click image to enlarge!)
How has coloring changed or added to your life?
I have always colored. It brings good memories of time spent with my mom and later me with my boys. It links me to my coloring on-line friends. Now it includes coloring time with my grand-daughter Rae. It allows me to leave the daily stress factors behind for a time and hopefully come back to them with a fresh mind and new plans.
What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?
I tell everyone “there is no wrong way to color” and “everyone has to start as a beginner”. Be patient, have fun, and you will see your art evolve. If you see someone color something you would like to know how to do, then ask them. For the most part they love being asked about their art and love encouraging others.
What’s your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?
I love them all. Sometimes deciding which one to do is the hardest part. But because I quilt I’d have to say its the quilt book. No, I haven’t gotten this book yet, but I’ve been drooling over everyones finished pages and thinking up how I would color them when I do get mine. LOL For the next book maybe 1 book to celebrate all holidays? Or a halloween book, a book of careers? book of unicorns and fairies? book of frogs? Options are endless with the artist at ColorIt as they are very artistic and do a great job of putting pen to paper for us!
Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?
I’d like to encourage everyone to post their pages! For example: I posted a page a couple weeks ago that I felt so-so about. I debated posting it because I wasn’t that happy with it. Then decided to just do it. I got many comments from people that truly enjoyed that page. It made me go back and look at it to see if I could see what others were obviously seeing! LOL Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Post your pages, you might not care for it that much, but to someone else it could be a work of art!

(Note to ColorIt: I will be asking my local senior care center what they would like to order with the gift card. Thank you so much!)

When did you first pick up a coloring book?
    September 2015
      Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
Every now and then my husband will color with me because he knows how happy that makes me, and we listen to fantasy audiobooks. So far nothing beats that :)
Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
One of my favorite parts of getting ready to color is choosing my colors. I have a notebook filled with color inspiration cut out of magazines, and when I'm getting ready to color I flip through the book until I feel certain colors call out to me. I also search Pinterest for ideas.
How has coloring changed or added to your life?
I honestly don't know where I would be right now without coloring. I'm only 26, but am fighting multiple life-threatening diseases and have been for years. Chronic illness, pain, and being bedridden is the majority of my life, and I really struggled with depression and intense loneliness for a long time. But coloring opened a door of comfort and therapy for me and connected me with other colorists. I rarely feel lonely anymore, and my life has been so much happier ever since I started coloring...I don't know how I survived so long without it!
This coloring page is from our Blissful Scenes coloring book and was selected by Audrey! I chose this page because it's exactly how I wish my backyard looked! Each bird, flower, and birdhouse was colored with such detail and the blending makes every color pop. Keep up the great work, Cassia! (Click the image to enlarge!)
What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?
Don't get discouraged, keep at it and one day it will click! I was HORRIBLE when I started coloring, but one day it just made sense to me, and now I'm way better. Learn from others, but don't compare your work to theirs.
What’s your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?
Blissful Scenes! That book is perfection. And I'd love to see a sleep coloring book in the future! :) Filled with cozy images and other things that aid in helping people wind down.
Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?
Color for YOU. Don't worry about what other people think ❤

This page is from our Colors of Nature coloring book and was picked by AJ! I absolutely love the patriotic design Niki went in this design. It looks like the stars were meant to be there! Niki also included her ColorIt Markers in her photo and DOUBLED her prize! (Click on the image to enlarge!)

This coloring page is from our Cats, Kittens, and Wildcats coloring book and was selected at random! I LOVE the colors that Brenda used in this design... not only did she use great colors, but she also created her own texture that makes the funky kitties purrrr-fect! Brenda also doubled her prize by including her ColorIt Colored Pencils. Love it, Brenda! (Click on the image to enlarge!)

This design is from our Mandalas Volume 2 coloring book and was selected at random! I love the color scheme Christine used, it's one of my favorite color combinations. I also didn't even notice that she added the background color-- it looks like it was meant to be there! Stunning work, Christine! (Click the image to enlarge!)

This design is from our Colorful Quilts coloring book and was selected at random! It looks like Jane used marker for this page and I just love how saturated all the colors are. She did a great job making this a very cozy corner. Wonderful work, Jane! (Click the image to enlarge!)

                              • I actually ordered the sample book for .99 to be shipped to my home but never received it. I was wondering if it was just taking some time but it’s been several months. I paid for it at the time I ordered it. And I’ve been in your drawings and I haven’t won anything

                              • I enjoy looking at these entries and learning about shading. Making color combinations and choices is a big deal for me & I learn so much from seeing what others have done.
