Polly Spilde Interview

Everyone who loves to color has a personal journey that is unique and inspirational. This month we are featuring Polly Spilde who is one of our most outgoing community members. Without even asking, Polly has sent in tons of coloring submissions that continue to wow us! Her color choices are creative and don't follow a particular pattern. Each design is loud with color that is ready to jump off of the page. Want to know what fuels her love of coloring? Let's find out!

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I loved coloring as a youngster, but hadn't colored in a very long time. It wasn't until my recent knee replacement surgery (Sept. 2015) that I started again. As a get well gift I received two adult coloring books and haven't stopped since!

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.

If I could describe " the perfect" coloring atmosphere, it would be somewhere by the ocean with waves crashing against the beach. Unfortunately, that isn't my reality! My reality is sitting on my big sectional watching my big screen TV, with all of my coloring supplies stacked around me :)

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.

My creative process involves finding pictures that inspire me at the current moment and deciding which colors I feel suit the design best. Then I just go for it!

How has coloring changed or added to your life?

Coloring has added so much joy and contentment to my life! It's my way of winding down and relaxing after a busy day of painting or house cleaning. I could literally color "all day... every day" if I could :)

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?

Advice I'd give to someone lacking confidence would be to just relax and do what feels right to them or makes them happy. We all have different ways of creating colorful pieces and no matter what the outcome is, it's a process that brings immediate satisfaction to the colorist! If it makes you happy, then it's all worth it :)

Calming Doodles Volume 1, Colored by Polly Spilde

What’s your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?

I don't know that I can pick a favorite ColorIt book . . . I absolutely LOVE each and every one of them! If I had to pick, maybe the Calming Doodles book because it was my first one.

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?

I absolutely LOVE coloring! I encourage anyone looking for a great hobby that can be taken anywhere and is a great stress reliever, to make the move and buy that first adult coloring book! It may just be the best thing that has happened to you!

Keep Calm and Color On!
