September Fan of the Month Winners
Posted by ColorIt Support on
And just like that, September is over. Before we begin another month of giveaways, let’s take a look at the winning entries for September’s Fan Of The Month contest!
If you’re new to ColorIt, here’s how our Fan of the Month contest works: every month, the ColorIt team picks three winning art submissions based on set criteria. To keep things fun and exciting, we also pick three more entries randomly.
Each winner will receive a $25 ColorIt gift card and will have the chance to double their prize if they include their ColorIt gel pens, pencils, and markers in the photo. The winners will also have the opportunity to be featured here on the site.
Here are the winners for September’s Fan Of The Month contest:
When did you first pick up a coloring book?
I'm a circulation assistant at a library where I started hosting the coloring program in September last year. I found a coloring book I liked and I've been coloring since.
Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
I really enjoy coloring at the library with other people. We have a great time listening to music, sipping tea, and chatting.
Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
I look through several coloring books to find the coloring page that suits my mood at the time.
How has coloring changed or added to your life?
Coloring is a fun and relaxing activity and I've made great new friends through the program at the library.
What advice would you give someone who isn't confident about their coloring technique?
There is no right or wrong way to color your coloring page, but if you really are worried about your ability, don't be afraid to ask for tips from colorists you admire. Do a little research on color theory and watch tutorial videos. Try different methods and materials to find what works best for you.
What's your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?
I really like the Wild Animals coloring book and I just ordered the Mythical & Fantasy. I adore dragons and would like to see more in the future.
When did you first pick up a coloring book?
Age 2 (per Mom!)
Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
I have a small desk in the living room that is devoted solely to coloring. It is equipped with two lamps and a cheap architect's light (on a movable arm). All of my markers and pencils are on a cart nearby and organized in pretty Mason jars. I like to listen to music on Spotify. I really feel like this is a form of meditation - as I concentrate only on coloring, my mind finally quiets. I've been known to spend hours coloring.

See above. With a freshly-brewed cup of coffee!
How has coloring changed or added to your life?
See above. I am former military and have PTSD. Coloring has been so very important in helping me to silence my thoughts, which allows me to heal and grow spiritually.
What advice would you give someone who isn't confident about their coloring technique?
In the words of the great artist Bob Ross, there are no mistakes-only "happy accidents"!!! The incidents also make me work outside my comfort zone and try something new, whether it is a "scary" new color or using pencils on top of markers for blending (GASP!). I started coloring over a year ago, and I have kept every picture I've completed. Sometimes I flip back through my binder and appreciate how far I've come with respect to details and techniques.
What's your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?
Mandalas Volume II (although Volume I is also pretty great). Wow-what would l like to see in the future??? Calming Doodles that are smaller, like the size of a mandala framed in the center of the page. I still really like Calming Doodles but taking up the whole page is sometimes...intimidating and overwhelming.
Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?
I always recommend ColorIt because of your high-quality products, but therein is a strong degree of support that you provide to those of us who love coloring as an art form and as therapy. Sometimes people ask what I like to do in my free time, and when I say color, I can get weird looks or comments. Thank you for creating a coloring "support community" so I don't feel like a freak. 😊
And here are the rest of the winners...
Suzanne Grant made this Wild Animals page scene groovy!
Shannon Fahrnbach did an excellent job making these seals look even cuter.
Camouflage? Michelle William's rendition of the Wild Animals Iguana page can most certainly do that.
Who says giraffes can only be orange? Heidi Knopp made her version of the Wild Animals giraffe page as colorful as it can be.
