ColorIt.... Blue!

Posted by Andrew Befumo on

Let's face it, we all have a favorite color. That's not to say we don't appreciate and love all of the other colors. There is just that one color that stimulates us, makes us feel at home, and serves as our go to color.

For me, that color is blue. You may have this same love for a different color be it yellow, red, or orange, and there’s nothing wrong with that. The reasons we have favorite colors are often subjective and relate to our personal tastes. I personally enjoy the color blue because it is powerful yet compassionate all at the same time. I can see something designed in the color blue and think it so forceful and indestructible, while seeing something else blue, and have a completely different reaction. Blue can also be refreshing like sweet blueberries on a nice summer day or cold like a frigid wintery night.

Let's get into some of the stronger, softer, and even unusual things you will find in the color blue.

1. The Sky

The sky is actually one of the things that can fit into both the powerful and compassionate categories. On a beautiful day when the sky is a soft yet bright azure blue feel as if there is nothing wrong in that world. Kind of one of those days where you just want to hold your arms out as far as they can go and take the deepest breath your lungs can handle. It gives you that compassionate feeling that it's good to be alive!
On the powerful side of things, is there anything more forceful than a dark and thunderous storm? The sky turns from the peaceful azure blue to a dark and angry hale navy. Better run for cover! Like many other challenges in life, the storm soon passes and the sky, once powerful and destructive, returns to it's peaceful azure blue.

2. The Atlantic Lobster

This sea creature will fall more into the unusual category. When I think lobster, I immediately think red. The Atlantic lobster is a light royal blue. It is really a fascinating creature. Much like when you color one of our ColorIt coloring books, the possibilities are endless. A blue lobster, or a blue anything else for that matter, why not?

3. Cookie Monster

C is for Cookie! That's good enough for me!
It's good enough for our list too! With an unmistakable voice, huggable blue fur and love for chocolate chip cookies how could cookie monster be left off any list of all things blue?

4. Blueberry Pie

I could win a championship for eating blueberry pie! Just the thought of the freshness in the deep blue fresh blueberries surrounded by the warm sweet crust..... wait a minute, I'm supposed to be writing an article!

5. The Ocean

Another one of blue's powerful yet peaceful things in life. Much like the sky, the ocean can be calm, peaceful and refreshing. For those of us who have been fortunate to live near the ocean, some of our greatest childhood memories come from days at the beach.
But also like this sky, you don't want to be near the ocean when it is in one of its powerful and destructive moods. But once settled, it is hard to find anything more comforting and tranquil than the oceans gentle waves.

6. The Regal Blue Tang

While on the topic of the ocean, let's bring up one of it's inhabitants. The Regal Blue Tang, perhaps one of the most beautiful fish in all of the ocean. This electric blue fish swims in ocean waters of several different regions and it is one of the most popular marine aquarium fish in all of the world. And who might be the most well known Regal Blue Tang? That's right, it's Dory!
"Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim."

7. Superman

You had to know this one was coming! Krypton's last son, the man of steel, whatever you call him, he makes blue look good! And, talk about power! There's certainly plenty of it here. A true symbol of truth, justice and the American way in the all American color.

8. The Blue Man Group

Definitely throw this one in the unusual file. From a disturbance on the streets of New York to some of the grandest stages in the world, these guys made one heckuva story out of my favorite color!

9. Blue Curaçao

Whether you prefer a Bluetail Fly, Stars and Stripes or Dark Lagoon this liqueur makes some of the coolest looking drinks at the bar! I wouldn't want to be holding a gin and tonic standing next to a guy holding a Jedi Cocktail.

10. The Blue Iris

Here's one for all you flower lovers out there. This vibrant flower is most commonly found near rivers and mountainsides in Europe, Asia and North America. It is the state flower of Tennessee and the subject of Vincent Van Gogh's 1889 painting, Irises. If it's good enough for a Van Gogh painting, it's good enough for our list!

11. Blue Velvet Cupcake

Topped with marshmallows, coconut or pecans, this scrumptious delight will have you coming back for more. Definitely one of those times blue will make you taste and feel the comfort of home.

12. Princess Elsa

Powerful, compassionate, cold, we are talking about royalty at its finest! The frozen princess that stole our hearts is absolutely stunning in her glamorous ice blue gown. How could you possibly not want to build a snowman?

13. Blue Moon Ice Cream

I have not had the pleasure of trying Bluemoon ice cream, but it's definitely near the top of my list. Most commonly found in finer ice cream parlors in the upper Midwest, the Chicago tribune describes this frosty treat as sweet as marshmallow with and incredibly close to fruit loop taste.

14. The Genie

Voiced by the late Robin Williams, the Genie captivated our imaginations in the hit Disney movie Aladdin. Who wouldn't want a friend like him? Not only is he blue, he grants wishes. How often have you thought of your own three wishes? All you got to do is rub that lamp!

15. The Miami Blue Butterfly

Finishing off the list is the symbol of ColorIt, the butterfly. In this case, the Miami blue butterfly. Once common, today this amazing creature is possibly the rarest insect in the United States. But thanks to breeding programs, we may see the Miami blue butterfly spread it's beautiful blue wings for years to come.
As we say time and time again, ColorIt is our community. We created it together and we strongly believe in the voice of our audience. If you would like to add any amazing blue things to our list we would love to hear from you.
Until then, grab your markers or colored pencils, be sure to have plenty of blue, and FREE YOUR CREATIVITY!
