June Fan of the Month Winners

Posted by Audrey Eytchison on

Each month, our judges Erika, AJ, and Audrey select 3 winning submissions based on very specific judging criteria. This is a very tough process since the talent within the ColorIt Community is beyond impressive! We are always so excited to see the submissions come rolling in each month. We want to reward all of our colorists, which is why we also select 3 submissions at random! Each winner receives a $25 ColorIt gift card, but this month we had a few contestants DOUBLE their prize by having their ColorIt Colored Pencils, Markers, or Gel Pens in their submission photo. Read on to see exclusive ColorIt interviews with the top 3 winners, the winning pages, and more!

When did you first pick up a coloring book?
As a child I was practically born with coloring and art supplies in my hands.  My parents started me out with creative art and music at a young age.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
As an adult colorist I enjoy coloring in groups, with disco music in the background, and sipping on adult beverages. Makes for a really fun night with #drunkcoloring & #winethirty  (It’s a “thing”).

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
Its a messy process with supplies everywhere, some snacks, good music, and then I just dive in depending on what color I am “feeling”.  Most of the time that's Pink, I love pink markers!

How has coloring changed or added to your life?
Adult coloring has made my life pretty colorful in more ways than one! Ive met some really wonderful people and now its a regular relaxing past-time for me.

This coloring page is from our Around the World in 50 Pages coloring book and was selected by Audrey! The shading in this vibrant picture is so realistic and the Californian in me had to pick the Hollywood sign! Cheryl had so many wonderful submissions, it was hard to pick just one. Wonderful work, Cheryl!

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?
Overcome your fears to unlock your creativity.    Like with any artist skill it just takes practice, but most of all its about having FUN!

What’s your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?
My favorite Colorit Book? Do I have to pick one? Can I get away with all of them?   I would enjoy a “Holiday” coloring book to celebrate the seasons and holidays, or a coloring book of each of the states in the U.S. that would be fun. (We are going to be releasing a holiday book very soon, Cheryl!)

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?
Coloring is really an important part of my life much like anything else, eating, sleeping, and coloring.

When did you first pick up a coloring book?

I was very small when I received my first color book. I remember it was filled with baby animals. About three years ago I started coloring again, but it's only been in the last six months that its developed into a hobby that I love.

Describe your perfect coloring atmosphere.
My den. I enjoy coloring while sitting at my desk with my pet bunny laying at my feet. It's quiet and I'm surrounded by my favorite things.

Tell us about your creative process when you get ready to color.
First I decide if I'm in the mood to color something easy or want a more detailed design. Then I flip through my books until something catches my eye. I've been experimenting more with using markers and gel pens along with my colored pencils which has really added a lot of enjoyment and variety to my coloring.

How has coloring changed or added to your life?
Coloring is just fun and relaxing for me. I'm focused on what I'm coloring and everything else seems to disappear. Its something my daughters and I can do together when we visit and we can share our creations through pictures when apart.

This "Belongs To" page is from both our Blissful Scenes and Best of ColorIt coloring books and was selected by Erika! I love the delicate colors in this page that create such a blissful vibe. Beautiful job, Theresa!

What advice would you give someone who isn’t confident about their coloring technique?
Just relax and don't worry about it being perfect. When I first started coloring again I was too concerned about following rules and trying to make my picture look professional. Then I realized I was taking all the enjoyment out of it for myself. Coloring is suppose to be fun. Enjoy playing with it and don't worry if you get outside a line or wish you would have done this or that differently. Whatever you do with your picture, it's OK!

What’s your favorite ColorIt book? What title would you like to see in the future?
Blissful Scenes is my favorite and it has some bunnies in it too. I would like to see a Colorit book of Rabbits and Bunnies. I think it would be a great companion to "Dogs, Everyone's Best Friend" and "Cats, Kittens and Wildcats".

Is there anything else you want to share about your love of coloring?
Coloring is one of the best things I have done for me in a long time. I am so enjoying my Colorit products. I had never colored with alcohol markers before I owned the Colorit ones and really hadn't done much with gel pens either. The thought had never actually crossed my mind to use them for coloring. Check out YouTube for tutorials and just relax and have fun!

This coloring page is from our Colors of the Decades coloring book and was selected by AJ! (No surprise there!) The colors throughout this page make me want to stop at AJ's Diner for a bite. Love it, Karlena!

Check out our randomly selected winners!

This coloring page is from our Blissful Scenes coloring book. The colors throughout this page are so playful and vibrant. I would gladly eat any one of these beautiful cupcakes! Great job, Jorgy!

This coloring page is from our Colors of Nature coloring book. This is an absolutely breathtaking piece. I love the way the entire page is colored and the color scheme is so magical. Beautiful page, Ana!

This psychedelic masterpiece is from our Wild Doodles coloring book. I absolutely love that she used every single color throughout the page! Great job, Jan!

  • Please let us see close-ups, and full shots, of the pictures that you select from the winners. It is really frustrating to not be able to see the whole drawing.

  • Please allow us to zoom in on the winners pictures so we can actually see them for one but to see them close enough to tell why they won and maybe learn a lil something from the winners style!! I know bandwidth and storage matter but there must be a way to have one image of the winning picture large enough to be appreciated as art. Thank You for all You do to help provide coloring fun and sense of community. Blessings upon You all!!

  • I enjoy your blog. I’m and “untaught & unlearned” colorist who entered the field about 18 months ago after being involved in rubber stamps and seed bead weaving….so I like color. The blog contest entries help me so much. I really like that pastel blue owl. My main hangup is thinking outside the box and NOT following nature.
